  • Efficiently Retrieve End Dates for a releases stories1
    Question posted Mar 18 by Bill Simpson3401 , tagged Integrations, Web Services API in Ask Rally > Questions & Answers public

    I'm trying to build a table that shows all of the stories and defects in a release and their projected our actual end date.  Our definition of that value is the sprint in which the item is completed, or in which the item is currently scheduled, but not yet completed.  In other words, it's the scheduled iteration End Date.  When I try to retrieve this value via the mashup tabs, I basically get an infinite wait.  Here's my query:

    queryArray[0] = {

    key:

    "stories",

    type:

    "hierarchicalrequirement",

    fetch:

    "FormattedID,Name,ObjectID,ScheduleState,Tags,Parent,PlanEstimate,Iteration",

    order:

    "Rank",

    query:

    "(Release.Name = " + "\"" + releaseDropdown.getSelectedName() + "\")"

    };

    If I later attempt to go through the items and ask for results[...].Iteration.EndDate I do not get a value returned.  I don't think it's a latency issue because this happens even if the number of items in results is 1.  So my question is, is there an efficient way of forumulating the query to get all of the values back?  Can I, for example, fetch values using dot notation (e.g., can I have in my fetch list for a hierarchicalrequirement the value Iteration.EndDate)?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Free Webinar on Agile - Get into flow with user storiesTitle: Get into Flow with User Stories: Techniques for Defining and Delivering Value

    Date: March 2nd, 2:00 PM Eastern Standard Time

    Presenter: Ken Clyne (Agile Coach, Rally Software)

     Do you want more practical agile training on planning your iterations? Are your teams trying to get into flow but struggle to get answers to tactical questions on user stories?

    Join agile coach Ken Clyne as he shares successful tactics for writing value-focused stories, sizing, splitting, tasking and accepting user stories, and strategies for working across teams from iteration to iteration. He also explains the differences between stories and tasks, how to update the backlog, ways to chart and track story point burn-up, write acceptance criteria, and understand when a story is done.

    This event addresses dozens of questions Rally receives from agile teams on the brass tacks of agile stories, including but not limited to:

    • What are your suggestions for improving agile story estimates?
    • How do I handle incomplete stories at the end of an iteration?
    • How do I account for unknowns when doing capacity planning?
    • How do I deal with relative story sizes across different teams?
    • How does one define "done" for each iteration?

    Don't miss this opportunity to get on track with your user stories and improve your iteration planning practices.
