We want to be able to get a high-level, big picture view of the product release across multiple iterations and multiple teams. The program view seems like it would be ideal for this, but it's nearly unusable since it appears that it can be viewed only as a live web page.
All Rally reports can be printed, but (for me) the "state" data prints only in black and white, regardless of whether I'm creating a PDF, saving as a Web page, printing to a color printer, or whether I use Firefox or IE. I have the printer settings set to "color", and the resulting document will show color for the Rally logo, but black-and-white for the "state"/status icons. I tried viewing the "viewlets" for the Program reports and they seem to offer a workaround by giving textual representations of the state, rather than the icons. Does that mean that I would have to change how "state" is represented in the entire workspace, just so that I can print a meaningful report?

Product: All Rally Editions
Platform: Windows
Browser: All
Description:
When I print the Iteration Status view I don't see the green/red Status boxes. I only see gray boxes.
Solution:
This can happen when your browser is not set to print background colors and images. Follow these steps to correct this:
Internet Explorer on Windows:
FireFox on Windows:
This should correct the problem.

I just got word from Rally Support that this will be resolved in the 2008.3 Release of Rally.

Yes, we've updated the print stylesheet so you don't need to do this extra step. You'll see this in a few weeks.

I have a hard time believing that it's the color settings in my browser since the Rally logo shows up in Red, and everything outside the data itself displays color. Only the boxes show up greyed out.

Hi Erin,
The logo is an image while the state icons rely on CSS style sheets to provide their color. The browser print feature treats these two differently. But, fortunately, as Alex and Craig mentioned, we have changed the way that the CSS style sheet works for the upcoming release so that it is not necessary to update your browser settings in order to identify the current state of the item in the print out.

That totally makes sense. Thanks for the explanation. Here are a couple of other usability issues with the Program View:
- In the Program Roadmap, the start date doesn't seem to register with the creation of the report. If I generate a report with the default start date of June 2008, it will create that report, but subsequent efforts to change the start date (e.g., to March 2008 or September 2008) result in no change to the generated report...it continues to generate a report with the initial start date of June 2008.
- In the Program Status View, I'd like to have the option to toggle from the hierarchical view to a flat view, as in the Project User Story backlog.

In regards to your first point, we are currently spending some time trying to understand why the program roadmap report sometimes ignores the start date. We're hoping to fix it for this upcoming release, but I can't make any promises. :)

12 months later and I'm seeing the same issues with the report generator ignoring the configuration data with the added feature of putting someone else's name on the report!
